TASTING
How can you describe a wine, if you cannot read in the glass according to color, nose, palate…
Tasting the wine has no secrets for a sommelier!
The 4 steps in tasting involve:
1. Appearance: looking at the wine
We use a ISO tasting glass- a world classic, accepted as a benchmark by all professional tasters. We need a white background, such a piece of paper, and as much natural light as possible.
The glass needs to be tilted at an angle allowing a good vision of the Rim of the wine, so all the shades of the wine can be observed.
The color tones are more blueish, or violet it is the indication of a younger wine. A mahogany, or browner rim color indicates an older wine.
As well as a lighter red can give a good clue of the Cultivar . The lighter usually being Pinot noir, Grenache, Tempranillo or Kalecik Karasi (Turquey). Very dark or intense could indicate Tannat, Petit Verdot or Syrah!

3. Flavor : Tasting wine
Tasting, is to speak of the sensations of the palate; is it harmonious? smooth or rough, rich or light.
